WHAT TO USE WHILE BUILDING A POND

THREE DIFFERENT SIZES

First, never put gravel on the bottom of the pond - it’s not a fish tank! Gravel captures toxins from fish waste and debris, which can cause serious diseases to fish while accumulating algae and causing algae bloom. Looks good when first put in, but down the road causes a lot of grief.

A small pond (100 to 300 gallons) - Needs to be at least 2 feet deep.

You will need: We recommend:
Pressurized filter Cyprio, Laguna, Pondmaster
Pump Pondworks, Pondmaster, Cyprio, Kal
Underliner DeWitt
45 mil underliner Firestone
UV Lights Cyprio, Misty Mountain, Pondmaster
Black foam All are equal
Rocks 4"-6" fieldstone, 1 man Canadian rounds, Canadian boulders, Pensilvania boulders, Smokey Mtn. boulders

A medium pond (300 – 1500 gallons) – Needs to be at least 2 feet deep.

If pond is more than 2 feet deep you will need a bottom drain hooked up to the skimmer box temporarily, until the fish grow larger. As fish grow larger, you can disconnect bottom drain from the skimmer box and hook up bead filter, rerouting pipe from the skimmer box to bead filter.
